Ilona Timchenko graduated from the Moscow Conservatory (prof. E.Richter), as well as the Prince Claus Conservatory (prof. A.Gold) and the Koninklijk Conservatory in The Hague (prof. Rian de Waal). She later perfected her training with Lazar Berman in Florence and Michel Beroff in Paris.
Ilona's interpretation combines Russian tradition with European style, always powerful and infinitely poetic.
Blessed with phenomenal technique and powerful musical and expressive abilities, she completely captivated the audience at Buxton Festival in England and soon debuted at Unione Musicale, one of the most prestigious festivals in Europe.
He has developed his concert activity performing with different orchestras such as: Saint Petersburg Academic Capella Orchestra, Dutch Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, North Holland Orchestra, Royal Flanders Philharmonic, Granada Symphony Orchestra, Royal Galicia Philharmonic and Orchestra of the Romanian Radio, RTVE Orchestra, the New Music Chamber Orchestra.
He performed as a soloist and with orchestras in prestigious halls such as Wigmore Hall, Phillips Hall, Musikverein, Concertgebouw, Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Teatro Monumental in Madrid, Megaron Mousikis in Athens, Center for Oriental Arts in Shanghai, among many others.
She premiered many works by contemporary composers, some of which were dedicated to Timchenko herself. Recordings of many of these works are stored in the archives of the Moscow State Conservatory.
She became the first to give a public performance of Shostakovich's 24 Preludes and Fugues in Italy.
Her CD of works by R.Shumann and J.Brahms released on the Landor Records label was selected for one of the inaugural 'outstanding' awards in International Record Review magazine and received rave reviews in Gramophone magazine. In 2010, Ilona recorded a double CD with piano music by A. García Abril. This recording was classified as “excellent” in Ritmo magazine in Spain. Since 2016, Ilona has been a member of the trio Metamorphoses, the CD released with this ensemble in 2018 was highly praised by critics around the world.
Winner of numerous international piano competitions, awarded with several awards from the public and music critics, such as Beethoven Competition in Vienna, Liszt Competition in Utrecht, Enescu Competition in Bucharest, Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens as well as many other awards in more than 30 international competitions.
She combines her life as a composer, creator, teacher and performer. She annually invited as a teacher at the annual Summer Academy in the Netherlands – Peter de Grote Festival. She is founder and Artistic Director of the Musical Pilgrims Association, which organizes masterclasses, concert cycles in Galicia and the “Musical Pilgrims” International Festival, which takes place in Santiago de Compostela.
Since 2019 she is Head of the Piano Department at the CSM of Galicia.
